Adult Learning Center
Mission
-to strengthen basic educational skills
-to prepare adult students to take the
GED tests
-to develop employment skills
-to serve as a beacon of hope by offering educational services
Program
-Monday through Thursday:
Morning class – 8:00A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Evening class – 4:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
-one-on-one tutoring for all students in reading, language, math,
science and social studies
-students work at their own pace,
overcome frustration, and get the help they need
-participants grow in self-confidence
-some small group instruction offered
-computer programs available to help practice academic skills
Requirement
-19 years or older
-above 3rd grade reading ability
-a desire to work hard
-$10 registration fee and ID
Meet the Staff
Director: Sister Bonita Sniegowski, SN
-a Sister of Notre Dame from Toledo, Ohio
-joined the Adult Learning Center staff in August, 2009
-experienced in education as an elementary teacher,
principal and a high school biology teacher
-has worked in GED programs for four years
-loves math and enjoys helping others learn it
Sister Lory Schaff, csj
-a Sister of St. Joseph and a native of New Orleans
-started the Center in January, 2007 with only one
student
-a former high school science teacher
-has worked 33 years in adult education
Sister Kathleen Bahlinger, csj
-a Sister of St. Joseph from Baton Rouge, LA
-began working with Sr. Lory in the fall of 2008
-a former high school math teacher
-has been a teacher in adult education for 31 years
